The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says a 100MVA power transformer at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja tripped in the early hours of Wednesday, leaving four 33kV feeders without electricity.
TCN said preliminary findings indicated oil spillage on the Red Phase high-voltage bushing of the TR4 transformer.
The affected feeders are H31, H33, H35 and H37, which supply electricity to customers of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
In a notice issued on Wednesday, TCN said its maintenance crew had commenced a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident and facilitate repairs.
The company said engineers were working to restore bulk power supply through the affected transformer as quickly as possible.
“ We regret the inconvenience this may cause AEDC’s customers supplied from the affected feeders and assure you that our engineers are doing everything possible to ensure a quick restoration of bulk power supply,” TCN said.
The incident is the latest disruption to electricity supply in the Federal Capital Territory, with restoration expected to depend on the outcome of the ongoing technical assessment and repairs.
