Alausa Commends NYSC Digital Reforms To Tackle Fraud

The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, has commended the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for deploying digital technology to combat fraud and improve the efficiency of its operations.

Alausa gave the commendation when the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

The minister praised the NYSC leadership for the transformation recorded by the scheme, particularly the adoption of technology in the registration and deployment of corps members.

He said the digitalisation of the process had made the registration and deployment of graduates more seamless and efficient.

Alausa recalled that the NYSC’s initial decision to introduce technology into its registration process faced resistance from some sections of the public, but said the reform had subsequently received widespread commendation.

“I would like to commend you for all the transformation that you have brought to NYSC and the use of technology to ensure seamless operations and deployment of Corps Members,” he said.

The NYSC Director-General told the minister that the scheme had further strengthened the security features of corps members’ call-up and posting letters following attempts by fraudsters to clone the documents and issue fake letters to prospective employers.

According to Nafiu, the fraudsters also used the fake documents to extort money from unsuspecting corps members.

He said the enhanced security measures had made the NYSC call-up and posting letters more resistant to manipulation, while enabling employers to verify their authenticity with greater ease.

Nafiu further disclosed that a joint committee comprising officials of the NYSC and the Federal Ministry of Education had been established to strengthen collaboration between the two institutions.

He said the committee would also help ensure that only qualified and eligible Nigerian graduates participate in the National Youth Service Corps programme.
