“Uniform is not a ticket for wickedness” — Soldier condemns brutality by security personnel

A Nigerian soldier has sparked widespread conversations on social media after criticising the conduct of some security personnel, accusing them of forgetting that their primary responsibility is to serve and protect the public.
In a video circulating online, the soldier addressed members of the military, police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other security agencies, lamenting what he described as unnecessary brutality against innocent citizens.
Soldier urges officers to remember their duty
The soldier said, “Let me ask you a question and this question goes to soldiers, policemen, civil defense and other officers out there, what we are doing is a service.”
He continued, “I know most of una don forget say na service you dey do… the level of brutality is uncalled for. Some of you are so wicked.”
The officer reminded his colleagues that wearing a uniform should not be seen as a licence to intimidate or mistreat members of the public, stressing that the profession is built on service, integrity and sacrifice.
Later, he added, “My question to you is if they remove that uniform what will be left? Can you still make that mouth, insult people anyhow?”
Remarks generate online debate
The soldier further advised officers to remain humble, warning that their careers would eventually come to an end and that they would one day return to civilian life.
His comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians applauding his message and calling for greater professionalism among security personnel.
Others described his remarks as a timely reminder that security officers are expected to uphold discipline, protect lives and treat citizens with dignity.
