“They still haven’t paid me” — NYSC member recounts risking her life in forest for INEC

A young National Youth Service Corps member has called out the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over an alleged unpaid ₦25,500 after working as an ad hoc staff member during the Osun State governorship election.
The NYSC member shared the complaint online, expressing frustration over what they described as a failure by the electoral body to pay the allowance reportedly promised to corps members who participated in the exercise.
The complaint has attracted attention because of the difficult conditions the corps member said they endured while carrying out the assignment, including travelling to a remote village through a route that was not motorable.
NYSC member recounts difficult journey
According to the young corps member, the assignment required them to work in a forested area, which they described as a risky environment.
The NYSC member said, “After working as adhoc staff of @inecnigeria during the Osun State governorship election in a thick forest, they have refused to pay 25,500 Naira to promised to pay all NYSC members who worked for them.”
Recounting the journey to the location, the corps member added, “My friend and I fell 3 times on Okada while trying to reach the village because it wasn’t motorable”.
The experience was also captured in a video showing the corps member in what appeared to be a forested environment.
Complaint sparks discussion over ad hoc staff payment
The post has renewed discussion about the experiences of temporary election workers and the importance of timely payment after electoral assignments.
The corps member’s account, however, remains an allegation, and no response from INEC was provided in the information available for this report.
