Senator Yari Speaks Following Appointment As Tinubu’s Campaign Council DG

The senator representing Zamfara West, Abdulaziz Yari, has accepted his appointment as the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections.
Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the APC leadership for entrusting him with the responsibility.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, Yari said he was fully aware of the weight of the assignment and would approach it with seriousness.
“I accept this responsibility with deep gratitude and full seriousness. My sincere thanks go to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party for the trust placed in me, and to our party leadership for the confidence. I do not take it lightly,” he said.
The senator described the campaign as an opportunity to engage Nigerians across the country rather than merely an avenue for winning an election.
According to him, the APC campaign would involve “a conversation with the Nigerian people in every state, every language, every faith about the future we are building together.”
Yari pledged to work with party members and stakeholders to build a campaign capable of attracting Nigerians from different political backgrounds.
He called on Nigerians to choose progress over division, stressing that the APC would seek to win public confidence by highlighting its record in government.
“The work begins immediately, and there is a place for everyone,” he said.
“To Nigerians of every political leaning, I say: choose progress over division. We will earn your confidence through our record, not noise.”
Yari conclusively expressed confidence that the APC would retain the presidency in 2027.
“By the grace of God, and with the effort of us all, we will deliver victory in January 2027,” he added.
His appointment was announced earlier on Saturday as part of the APC’s unveiling of its Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to the list, President Tinubu will serve as chairman of the council, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, as vice chairmen.
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, was appointed Secretary, while APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, and Hadiza Bala-Usman will serve as Deputy Secretary and Assistant Secretary respectively.
The campaign structure also includes senior party figures and political leaders, among them former APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande; veteran politician, Chief Segun Osoba; former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha; former APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu; and Senator Florence Ita Giwa.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were named Deputy Directors-General for the Southern and Northern blocs.
They will work alongside Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau in coordinating the two regions.
Tinubu directed members of the council to work relentlessly towards securing victory for the APC in the 2027 elections.
The President also instructed the various directorates to accommodate other party members who were not included in the initial list but are willing to contribute to the campaign.
Defending the administration’s record, Tinubu said his government had fulfilled its campaign promises and placed Nigeria on a path of economic recovery and growth.
“We have delivered on our campaign promises and set our country on a path of economic progress,” the President said.
He urged the campaign council to use the election season to highlight the administration’s achievements and persuade Nigerians to renew their support for the APC.
“As we march into the campaign season, we have many achievements to trumpet—let us confidently showcase our record and inspire hope in every corner of our nation,” Tinubu added.
