Police Arrest Officers Linked To Shooting Of Motorist In Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that police officers linked to the shooting of a motorist are currently in the custody of the State Police Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), awaiting investigation.

Spokesperson of the command, ASP Blessing Agabe, who confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday, said that preliminary information indicates that on August 27, 2026, there was an altercation between the occupant of a vehicle, Anthony Obodo and a police officer which resulted to a scuffle between the duo.

However, eyewitnesses identified the victim as a Uniport graduate awaiting his NYSC call up. The witnesses said he refused to stop when flagged down by a police team on patrol and one of the officers shot him from the back .

They further said the vehicle swerved out of the road thereafter and injured some passerby.

Following the incident, the alleged officer Corporal Alfred Louis was attacked and assaulted by a mob, inflicting multiple injuries on him in the process.

The police said the officer and members of his team, are currently in State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) custody and will face appropriate disciplinary actions in accordance with the law subject to the outcome of the investigation.

While condemning the action of the police officer, the command stressed that his action does not reflect professionalism in policing and vowed it will not relent to carry out strict disciplinary actions against erring police officers.

“The command is not a shield for anybody engaging in unethical conduct putting the Nigeria Police Force in disrepute,” the statement maintained.
