Plateau Governor Mutfwang Mourns Veteran Journalist Samson Oladipo

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has mourned the death of veteran journalist and former newspaper editor, Samson Oladipo.
Mutfwang, in a condolence message issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, on Thursday, described Oladipo’s death as a major loss to the Nigerian media industry and the country.
The governor described the deceased as an “ace journalist” and towering figure whose contributions to journalism helped shape public discourse, promote democracy and good governance, and project Nigeria positively to the international community.
He commended Oladipo’s decades-long career, saying it was characterised by professionalism, intellectual depth, integrity and commitment to ethical journalism.
Mutfwang also highlighted the late journalist’s role in mentoring and nurturing younger professionals, noting that his efforts helped build a new generation of journalists with the knowledge, skills and values needed to contribute to national development.
The governor recalled his encounter with Oladipo during one of the Nigerian Guild of Editors’ visits to Plateau State for its annual general meeting.
Mutfwang said the encounter remains a cherished memory, adding that he was deeply saddened by the journalist’s death.

Oladipo, who worked as a newspaper editor before becoming the publisher of the Eagles Online platform, was a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) and contributed extensively to the journalism profession.
According to the governor, his death is not only a monumental loss to his family, the NGE, the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the journalism profession, but also to the wider media community and Nigeria.
“His remarkable contributions to journalism and national development will not be forgotten,” the governor said.
Mutfwang, on behalf of his family, the Plateau State government and the people of the state, expressed his condolences to the Oladipo family, NGE, NUJ and the entire media community.
He prayed that God would grant the deceased eternal rest and provide comfort to his family, colleagues and others mourning his passing.
