Boko Haram fighter surrenders to troops in Borno

A 20-year-old Boko Haram fighter has surrendered to troops of the Nigerian Army in Borno State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the fighter, identified as Bakura Abubakar, surrendered at about 6:05 am on November 6, 2026, to troops of 202 Battalion, 21 Special Armoured Brigade, Sector 1, at Ngurusoye village.
The sources said the surrender occurred while troops were conducting perimeter patrol in the area.
Abubakar reportedly handed over one FN rifle and seven rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that he fled from a JAS enclave in Bula Daloye following clashes with fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, as well as hardship within the group.
The surrendered fighter is currently in the custody of 21 Special Armoured Brigade for further investigation and necessary action.
