The state government expressed appreciation to the outgoing Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Imoisili Udoka, for her contributions and announced that she would be assigned another responsibility at a later date.

“The State Government appreciates the contributions of the current Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. (Mrs.) Imoisili Udoka and wishes to inform the public that she will be assigned another responsibility at a later date,” the statement said.

The government congratulated Owolabi and wished her a successful tenure.

Okpebholo Swears in New Education Commissioner

In a related development, Governor Okpebholo swore in Dr Washington Osifo as the new Commissioner for Education in Edo State.

Osifo, a former Commissioner for Education, had resigned from the cabinet to pursue his political ambition. He was later renominated by the governor and screened and cleared by the Edo State House of Assembly.

His return to the ministry followed the resignation of the former Commissioner for Education, Dr Paddy Iyamu, who stepped down to pursue his ambition to represent his constituency in the House of Representatives.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, Okpebholo said Osifo was appointed because of his credibility and capacity to deliver on his responsibilities.

The governor said there was still considerable work to be done in the education sector and urged the commissioner to focus on developing all levels of education across the state.

“Let me congratulate you, honourable commissioner. You were part of us a few months ago and now you are back as Commissioner for Education. We believe you will do well in that ministry. That was why we appointed you to take charge of the ministry,” Okpebholo said.

He urged Osifo to pay attention to primary, secondary and tertiary education.

“There is a lot to be done in the educational system. We want you to please develop the educational system for Edo people. I want you to follow up and develop all aspects of education, primary, secondary and tertiary education systems in Edo State. We want to record success under your watch,” the governor said.

Onaiwu Joins Edo Local Government Service Commission

The swearing-in ceremony also featured the inauguration of Mr Aghedo Oscar Onaiwu as a member of the Edo State Local Government Service Commission.

The appointments and swearing-in ceremonies form part of the Okpebholo administration’s ongoing changes in key sectors of the Edo State Government.
