Nigeria Makes History, Secures Qualification For 2028 Olympic

Nigeria has secured a historic place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games after winning the women’s title at the 2026 African Beach Volleyball Nations Championship in Alexandria, Egypt.
The Nigerian pair produced a dominant performance in Saturday’s final, defeating Morocco 2-0 (21-17, 21-10) to claim the continental crown and book Nigeria’s first-ever Olympic qualification in beach volleyball.
The landmark achievement ends years of near misses for the country, with Nigeria having previously reached the African final on three occasions without securing the decisive victory.
President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Musa Nimrod, described the qualification as a historic triumph for the entire nation.
“I wish to congratulate Nigerians and thank God. This is the fourth time we are going into the finals; we finished in second place on three occasions,” Nimrod said.
“God has done it for us on our fourth trial and given us victory. It is not the Nigeria Volleyball Federation’s success alone but the entire nation.”

Nimrod also reflected on the federation’s lengthy wait for the breakthrough, describing the Olympic qualification as the reward for years of persistence.
“I want to say that after all these 16 years, today God has made it possible for the federation,” he added.
The historic achievement represents a major milestone for Nigerian volleyball and provides the country with a new opportunity to compete on the world’s biggest sporting stage.
The secretary general of CAVB Zone 3 also commended the National Sports Commission and the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, for their continued support and contributions to the development of volleyball in Nigeria.
With the qualification secured, Nigeria will now turn its attention to preparing for the Olympic beach volleyball competition in Los Angeles, where the country will make its historic debut in the event.
