Moffi begins Hamburg training as club chief hails Nigerian

Terem Moffi has joined his new Hamburg teammates in training after completing his permanent move from French side Nice, with sporting board member Kathleen Krüger describing the Nigerian striker as an “excellent fit” for the club, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Moffi completed his permanent move to Hamburg from Nice on Monday and has been handed the No. 9 shirt ahead of the new season.
Krüger said Moffi’s arrival would add depth and quality to Hamburg’s attack while also providing valuable experience for the club’s younger players.
“Terem is an excellent fit to our approach. His signing gives us greater depth and variability at centre forward and increases our quality. His career brings great experience at international level and can pass that on to our young players,” Krüger said.
Moffi, who spent last season on loan at Porto, also revealed how his father’s reaction to Hamburg’s interest motivated his switch.
“Even though HSV spent a few years in the second division, the club is still a big name, and that is the case all over the world,” Moffi said via the club’s website.
“When I told my father about the club’s interest, he immediately knew which club I was talking about and was really excited. For me, that was crazy in a positive way.
“That makes me even happier to now be part of the club and its history myself.”
Moffi joined Nice in January 2023 and scored 24 goals in 72 appearances for the French club. He also scored twice in 15 competitive appearances during his loan spell at Porto last season.
The striker brings considerable European and international experience to Hamburg. He made seven Europa League appearances for Nice and Porto last season, scoring in Porto’s 4-1 aggregate victory over VfB Stuttgart in the last 16.
Moffi was unavailable for Hamburg’s DFB-Pokal first-round clash away to Verl on Monday, which they won 3-0, but he will hope to make his debut when the club begin their Bundesliga campaign away to Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
His departure from Nice follows a difficult final chapter at the club, with Moffi among the players targeted by supporters after Nice’s team bus was attacked following a defeat to Lorient in November 2025.
