Troops foil ransom exchange, rescue kidnapped woman in Kebbi

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled a planned ransom exchange and rescued a kidnapped woman after overwhelming terrorists during an operation in Kebbi State.
A military source said the rescue operation took place on August 26, 2026, following credible intelligence that terrorists were planning to collect ransom for a woman abducted from her farm.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops conducting counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations mobilised to intercept the planned ransom exchange.
As the troops closed in on the criminals, the terrorists attempted to engage them but were quickly overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the advancing troops.
The encounter forced the criminals to retreat in disarray, abandoning their hostage in the process.
Troops rescued the woman, who was found unharmed, and safely evacuated her before reuniting her with her family in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Following the successful rescue, the troops conducted a thorough search of the terrorists’ withdrawal route to secure the area against possible threats before returning safely to base.
In a separate effort to sustain peace and security across the region, troops also conducted routine clearance and dominance patrols in Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The patrols were completed successfully without incident, reinforcing the troops’ resolve to deny terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of action within their areas of operation.
The successful operation underscores the determination of Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops to pursue terrorists, disrupt their criminal activities and ensure the safety of vulnerable citizens across the North-West.
