A 38-year-old farmer, David Donkor, has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour by the Bekwai Circuit Court after being convicted of defiling his 13-year-old stepdaughter.
Donkor was prosecuted on one count of defilement, contrary to Section 101 of Ghana’s Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), following investigations by the Bekwai Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).
According to the prosecution, the offence occurred in December 2024 at Afoako, a community near Bekwai, where Donkor sexually assaulted the 13-year-old girl, who is his stepdaughter.
The victim’s 27-year-old mother reported the incident to Bekwai DOVVSU after discovering what had happened.
The court heard that Donkor fled the community after he was confronted, prompting police to launch a search for him.
The victim was taken for a medical examination, and the resulting medical report was tendered as evidence during the trial.
Investigators later received intelligence that the suspect had been sighted in Ntotroso in the Ahafo Region. With the assistance of officers from the Ntotroso Police Command, Donkor was arrested on January 8, 2026, and transferred to Bekwai DOVVSU to assist with investigations.
According to court records, Donkor admitted to the offence in his caution statement during police investigations before he was formally charged.
After reviewing the evidence presented, the Bekwai Circuit Court found him guilty and sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
