The British High Commission in Nigeria has congratulated Team Nigeria on its impressive performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where the country emerged as Africa’s highest-performing nation.
Nigeria concluded its campaign with 24 medals, comprising 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze, to finish as the continent’s best-performing team at the Games.
In a post on its official X page, the UK in Nigeria praised the athletes for their achievements and resilience throughout the competition.

Team Nigeria’s campaign featured standout performances across several events, helping the country finish ahead of South Africa, Kenya and other African nations on the continental medals table.
The team’s success was driven by strong performances in athletics, weightlifting, wrestling and para-sports, as Nigeria once again underlined its status as one of Africa’s leading sporting nations on the Commonwealth stage.
