Jigawa to Vaccinate 5,000 Domestic Animals Against Diseases

More than 5,000 domestic animals in Malam Madori Local Government Area of Jigawa State are to receive free vaccination as part of efforts to prevent livestock diseases and improve animal production.

The exercise follows the commissioning of an ultra-modern veterinary clinic built by the local government to strengthen veterinary services and support livestock farmers.

Flagging off the vaccination programme, the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Professor Salim Abdulrahman, said the state government has supplied the clinic with essential drugs and vaccines to improve animal health.

The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Salisu Abdullahi, who led the vaccination exercise, says the vaccines will cover cattle, goats, sheep, dogs and poultry.

He says adequate drugs and vaccines are available to protect more than 5,000 animals from diseases, helping farmers reduce losses and improve their livelihoods.

For livestock owners, the intervention is expected to provide timely access to veterinary care, particularly for rural farmers who may struggle to afford treatment for their animals.

The Zonal Veterinary Officer, Dr Haruna Abubakar, pledges the ministry’s support to ensure the clinic operates effectively and provides regular services to livestock owners.

The Chairman of Malam Madori Local Government, Salisu Sani Garungabas, says the council will continue to support Governor Umar Namadi’s development agenda and improve services for residents.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Hussain Adamu Isah, commends the state and local governments for involving herders in livestock development programmes.

The vaccination exercise is expected to strengthen disease prevention, protect livestock assets and support Jigawa’s wider efforts to expand livestock production and improve the livelihoods of farming and herding communities.
