A Nigerian man has revealed the amount he earned annually while working at Shell in 2012.
In a now-viral post on X (formely Twitter), the man shared that he earned an annual salary of $120,000.
Man Discloses Annual Salary
However, in 2022, he earned double his salary after several promotions.
Meanwhile, he stumbled on a confidential internal document showing his superiors’ salaries, and discovered that the maximum annual salary he could receive was $480,000.
“I saw that even if I were promoted multiple times again, the best I could hope for in another 10 years was another doubling to around $480K a year..I simply didn’t want the next 10 years to be a repeat of the last 10″, The tweet reads in part.
Man Celebrates 40th Birthday
According to the man who goes by @AskMichaelTaiwo on X, on his 40th birthday he quietly wished to cut ties with Shell, which came to fruition.
Meanwhile, in 2024, his business grossed $500K, and $1 million the following year in exponential growth.
”It required me to be delusional about my abilities, to bank on the faithfulness of God and to trust that inner voice that always nag at me that I could be more, I could do more and I could have more“, He added.
