Gov Bala Mohammed reshuffles Bauchi cabinet, appoints four new commissioners

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed on Thursday carried out a minor cabinet reshuffle, appointing four new commissioners barely nine months before the end of his administration.

The appointments followed the exit of some commissioners who resigned to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections, while two others were removed from office.

The newly appointed commissioners are Madaki Ahmad Gololo, Bashir Yau, Bashir Adamu Rishi and Baraya Ibrahim.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony at the Government House in Bauchi, Mohammed said the appointments were made to ensure that local government areas affected by vacancies remained represented in the State Executive Council.

He said the selection of the new commissioners was based not only on equitable representation but also on merit, competence, experience and their commitment to the development of the state.

The governor urged the appointees to quickly acquaint themselves with government policies and collaborate with permanent secretaries and other civil servants to deliver the objectives of their ministries.

He warned that their conduct would be subjected to public scrutiny and advised them to uphold integrity, accountability, transparency and due process in the management of public resources.

“Your actions and conduct will be closely monitored by the government and the people of Bauchi State. You must ensure that your stewardship reflects probity, accountability, and transparency, and avoid any act capable of bringing this administration into disrepute,” Mohammed said.

As part of the cabinet changes, Mohammed assigned Gololo to the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises and Cooperatives, Bashir Yau to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Bashir Adamu Rishi to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, and Baraya Ibrahim to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment.

He also redeployed Adamu Babayo Gabarin to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Abdul Hassan to the Ministry of Rural Development and Special Duties, and Muhammad Hamisu Shira to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development.

The governor retained Hassan Eliyakub and Usman Usman as supervising commissioners for the Ministries of Local Government and Water Resources, respectively.

Speaking on behalf of the newly appointed commissioners, Baraya Ibrahim thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in them, pledging their loyalty to the administration’s development agenda.

“We will work collectively to promote transparency, accountability, and the effective implementation of government programmes for the benefit of the people of Bauchi State,” he said.

Mohammed concluded the ceremony with prayers for divine guidance and protection for the new commissioners, Bauchi State and the country, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of citizens before the expiration of its tenure.
