First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged Muslim women across Nigeria to remain steadfast in their faith, resilient in the face of challenges and committed to their responsibilities to their families, communities and the nation.

She made the call while declaring open the 41st National Conference of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) in Umuahia, Abia State.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Special Assistant to the President, Media and ICT, Office of the Vice President, Kwapchi Bata Hamman, on Friday, August 21.

The First Lady, who was represented at the event by the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, described the conference theme, “Faith, Resilience and Responsibility: Muslim Women Responding to Challenges,” as timely and a call to action.

According to her, faith provides women with the strength and courage to overcome difficulties while keeping hope alive during challenging periods.

“As women, our faith strengthens us, gives us courage and keeps hope alive, even in the face of challenges. Through faith, resilience and a strong sense of responsibility, we can continue to make meaningful contributions to our families, communities and our nation,” she said.

Tinubu commended FOMWAN for more than four decades of service to women and families across the country, urging members to sustain their contributions towards building peaceful families, stronger communities and a better Nigeria.

She highlighted the roles of Muslim women as mothers, wives, educators, mentors and community leaders, urging them to lead by example through love, compassion, patience and mutual support.

The First Lady also stressed the importance of inculcating sound moral, ethical and religious values in children.

She encouraged participants to use the conference to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships and develop practical solutions to challenges affecting women, families and communities.

Tinubu expressed the hope that the deliberations and resolutions from the conference would translate into concrete actions that would improve the welfare of women while promoting peace, unity and national development.

Speaking at the event, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, who was represented by his wife, Mrs Priscilla Chidinma Otti, said faith, resilience and responsibility were essential qualities for navigating the challenges of a changing society.

“Resilience gives us the courage to stand firm when circumstances test us but responsibility gives us purposeful direction calling us to live meaningful lives at home in our communities and in nation building,” Otti said.

The governor described the relationship among followers of different religions in Abia as remarkable, assuring participants of his administration’s commitment to religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

“In Abia we understand that religious diversity is not a weakness it is part of the richness of our shared humanity as such the Abia state Government remains committed to religious tolerance, inclusion and peaceful coexistence,” he said.

Also speaking, the National Amirah of FOMWAN, Dr Sumaye Fadimatu Hamza, said the association had remained committed to faith-inspired service since its establishment more than four decades ago.

According to her, FOMWAN has contributed to education, healthcare, women empowerment, humanitarian response, peacebuilding and community development across Nigeria.

She said the association’s journey reflected the commitment of successive generations of Muslim women who had dedicated themselves to serving humanity.

The 41st FOMWAN National Conference brings together Muslim women from across the country to deliberate on issues affecting women, families and communities, as well as explore practical ways of strengthening their contribution to national development.
