Edo Speaker Agbebaku Resigns Following Impeachment Moves

The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, has resigned from office following growing moves by lawmakers to remove him from the leadership of the state legislature.
Agbebaku’s resignation was confirmed on Monday by his media aide, Ivy Ebojede, who said further details surrounding the development would be made public later.
The resignation follows an emerging move by a group of lawmakers to initiate impeachment proceedings against the speaker, amid reported tensions within the assembly.
Rather than face a formal removal process, Agbebaku reportedly opted to step down from the position.
His exit represents a major leadership shake-up in the Edo State House of Assembly and could trigger fresh realignments among lawmakers as the legislature prepares to determine his successor.
However, details of the issues that prompted the alleged impeachment move, including the number of lawmakers involved, remain unclear.

With Agbebaku’s departure, attention is now expected to shift to the assembly’s next move, including the possible appointment of an acting speaker and the election of a substantive replacement.
The development adds another significant dimension to Edo State’s evolving political landscape as lawmakers and political stakeholders await further details on the circumstances surrounding the speaker’s resignation.
