Defender Amar Dedic – The Trumpet Newspaper Nigeria

Newcastle United have completed the signing of Bosnia and Herzegovina defender Amar Dedic from Benfica for a reported £30 million.
The 24-year-old right-back has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League club after completing his medical on Tyneside on Monday.
Dedic, who celebrated his 24th birthday on Tuesday, becomes reunited with Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle, having previously worked under the German coach at Red Bull Salzburg.
The defender played a key role during his time in Austria, helping Salzburg win the Austrian league title in 2023.
Speaking after completing his move, Dedic described joining Newcastle as a “special feeling” and said working with Jaissle again was a major factor behind his decision.
He also expressed excitement about playing Premier League football at St James’ Park and experiencing the atmosphere created by Newcastle supporters.

Jaissle welcomed the arrival, describing Dedic as a player he has known since his early years in Austria and one whose attacking and defensive qualities fit Newcastle’s style of play.
“He’s athletic, aggressive and technically very good, but also has a lot of potential to develop further,” the manager said.
Newcastle had been searching for a new right-back following Kieran Trippier’s departure to Wolves on a free transfer after his contract expired.
Dedic could make his Newcastle debut as early as Sunday when the club host Liverpool in their Premier League opener. Tino Livramento remains a doubt after suffering a calf injury while on international duty with England in June.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international already has experience of playing at St James’ Park, having featured for Benfica in their 3-0 Champions League defeat to Newcastle last season.
Despite only making 24 Primeira Liga appearances last season, Dedic recorded impressive ball-carrying numbers, ranking second among full-backs for carries into the attacking third and third for progressive carries and total carries.
His ability to operate at both right-back and left-back is also expected to provide Newcastle with greater defensive flexibility.
Dedic is one of Newcastle’s more experienced summer recruits as the club continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
The Magpies, however, are expected to remain active in the transfer market before the window closes on September 1.
