Cross River child murder…

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Saviour Otu Adim, over the alleged murder of his six-year-old stepdaughter, Goodness Ekpo Okon, in the state.
Adim was arrested after a report was lodged with the police on Friday, August 28, 2026, alleging that he assaulted the child, resulting in her death.

The Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah Akata, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
According to the police, Mrs Itoro Udofia lodged the report at about 8:30 a.m., alleging that Adim assaulted the child, leading to her death.

Preliminary investigation, the police said, indicated that the suspect had allegedly accused the deceased of being a witch.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at a mortuary for autopsy as part of the investigation.
The case has also been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Calabar, for further investigation.
The Cross River State Police Command urged members of the public to protect children and promptly report suspected cases of child abuse to the appropriate authorities.
The command also cautioned residents against spreading unverified information or resorting to self-help in cases involving allegations of abuse or criminal conduct.
