50 Customs Officers Complete Junior Leadership Course In Abuja

Fifty officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have completed the three-month Junior Course 25 at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College (NCCSC), Gwagwalada, Abuja.

The graduation ceremony, held on Friday, August 28, 2026, marked the completion of the officers’ professional leadership training and their preparation for higher responsibilities within the Service.

Speaking at the ceremony, Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, charged the officers to make integrity, sound judgment and national interest the foundation of their leadership.

Adeniyi said modern customs administration requires officers to demonstrate competence and accountability beyond the traditional responsibility of revenue generation.

He urged the graduates to apply the knowledge acquired during the course to effectively manage the increasingly complex operational challenges confronting the Service.

“Leadership is not defined solely by the rank that you wear, but is demonstrated through competence, fairness, courage and the responsibility you take,” Adeniyi told the officers.

The customs boss also challenged them to place public service above personal interests as they assume new responsibilities across various commands.

Commandant of the College, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs, Dow Gaura, commended the graduates for their dedication and commitment throughout the three-month programme.

Gaura also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve the institution, including the deployment of digital learning tools and strategic training partnerships with the Nigerian Army.

All 50 officers received certificates at the graduation ceremony, while the three best-performing participants were presented with special awards by the Comptroller-General.

The graduation activities had commenced on Wednesday, August 26, with a regimental dinner attended by senior officers of the service.

At the dinner, Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs, Suleiman Chiroma, who represented Adeniyi, urged the officers to demonstrate vigilance, professionalism and decisive leadership in their various post-graduation assignments.

He tasked them with translating the knowledge and skills acquired during the course into effective performance in their respective commands.
