“The groom was a bus driver…” — Friends drag bride after travelling from Lagos to Calabar for wedding

A lady has sparked reactions online after revealing how her friends allegedly spent ₦100,000 on asoebi and travelled from Lagos to Calabar for a wedding, only to be disappointed by what they found when they arrived.

According to the lady, the bride had sold the asoebi to her friends for ₦100,000 and allegedly convinced them that her husband’s friends were wealthy and that attending the wedding could help them make valuable connections.

Trusting her words, the friends reportedly bought the asoebi, spent additional money preparing for the ceremony and made the trip from Lagos to Calabar.

However, their expectations were said to have changed when they discovered that the groom was a bus driver.

Friends reportedly express disappointment

The revelation has left the woman’s friends unhappy, with the lady claiming that they have been dragging the bride on TikTok since Saturday.

The situation appears to have generated debate over the expectations people sometimes attach to weddings, particularly when guests spend significant amounts of money based on promises or information given to them by the couple or their friends.

For the friends involved, what was expected to be an opportunity to meet influential people reportedly became an experience they were not prepared for.

Story sparks reactions on TikTok

The incident has continued to attract reactions online, with social media users weighing in on whether the friends were wrong to expect connections because of the groom’s social circle.

Others have focused on the alleged ₦100,000 asoebi and the additional expenses incurred by the guests before travelling for the wedding.

The story has also renewed discussions about the pressure surrounding asoebi culture in Nigeria, where guests can spend considerably on outfits, transport and other wedding-related expenses.
