Tinubu walks to office, eats once daily, says NRS chairman

The Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji, has defended President Bola Tinubu against criticism over his lifestyle and official spending, saying the President lives modestly despite the privileges attached to his office.

Adedeji made the remarks while responding to concerns over the level of public expenditure associated with the presidency and other government officials.

According to the NRS chairman, Tinubu is not driven by luxury and has adopted a lifestyle that reflects restraint. He claimed that the President sometimes walks to his office and eats only once a day.

Adedeji said the President’s personal habits should be distinguished from the broader expenses of running government, noting that some costs associated with the presidency are tied to official responsibilities rather than personal consumption.

The NRS boss maintained that Tinubu’s approach to leadership should not be judged solely by the size of government expenditure, stressing that the President has continued to demonstrate personal discipline.

His comments come amid ongoing public debate over government spending, including expenditure on official travel, security, vehicles and other presidential activities.

Adedeji’s remarks are expected to fuel further discussion about the distinction between the personal lifestyle of public officials and the cost of maintaining government institutions.

The NRS chairman urged Nigerians to assess the administration based on its policies, reforms and impact on the country rather than assumptions about the President’s personal lifestyle.
