Osun Election: Adeleke Campaign Calls for Police Investigation Over Fadahunsi’s Alleged ‘Kill’ Remark

The campaign council of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to investigate Senator Francis Fadahunsi over a viral video in which he allegedly made an inciting statement against supporters of the Accord Party.

Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, was reportedly addressing supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ilesa ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.

In the video circulating on social media, the senator, speaking in Yoruba, was heard accusing members of the Accord Party of attacking APC supporters and allegedly urging his audience to retaliate against Accord Party supporters in Ilesa.

He was also seen challenging those present to record his remarks and share them on social media.

Reacting to the video, the spokesperson for the Adeleke campaign council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, urged the police to intervene immediately, warning that the comments could endanger lives and undermine the peaceful conduct of the election.

“This is a serious threat to lives and the peaceful conduct of the August 15 election.

“Mr Inspector-General of Police, this must be addressed immediately. Nobody has the right to kill an Accord member or any citizen. Nobody has the right to stop Osun people from voting. Enough is enough!” Olajengbesi said.

The campaign council’s call comes amid rising political tensions in Osun ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, as political parties intensify campaigns and mobilisation across the state.

Several Nigerians who reacted to the video on social media also called for police intervention.

An Osun indigene, Wale Akintoye, questioned why the police had yet to act on the senator’s remarks, describing them as a potential threat to public safety.

Another social media user, Adenike Bekky, condemned the alleged statement, stating that political differences should not justify threats or violence.

“Why should anyone be threatened or harmed simply because they chose not to decamp with you? Politics should never be a matter of life and death. We cannot all face the same direction, and political differences should never be a reason to threaten the lives of citizens,” she said.

However, Fadahunsi later clarified his remarks, insisting they were political and metaphorical in nature.

The senator stated that his comments were intended to encourage supporters to decisively reject the Accord Party at the ballot box through lawful, peaceful, and democratic means during the August 15 governorship election.

The controversy comes days before Osun voters head to the polls to elect a governor, amid renewed calls from political stakeholders and security agencies for a peaceful electoral process.
