2027: ADP Will Hold Security Chiefs Accountable, Says Yabagi Sani

The National Chairman of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Yabagi Sani, has said his party will prioritise accountability in the security sector if elected to power in 2027.
Sani said security agencies and their commanders must be held responsible when citizens continue to suffer attacks despite huge allocations to the sector.
He made the declaration on TVC News Breakfast’s FCT Brief, anchored by Tijesu Adeoye and Esomomo Imodou, on Wednesday.
The ADP chairman said his party’s proposed manifesto would focus on accountability as a central pillar of its approach to tackling insecurity.
“Hold people that are in charge of security accountable. Hold them to account,” Sani said.
He questioned the continued release of billions of dollars and trillions of naira to security agencies without corresponding improvements in the protection of lives and property.
“How do you explain a situation where you give billions of dollars, or trillions of naira to an agency, and your people are being killed more than when you gave them that money, or people are terrorised more than when you gave them that money?” he asked.
Sani said accountability should extend through the security command structure, from senior commanders to officers responsible for operations in affected communities.
He said commanders, including General Officers Commanding and service chiefs, should be answerable for security failures under their watch.
“From the command, from the GOCs up to even the service chiefs, down to the man who is in charge of a platoon or an area,” he said.
According to him, there must be clear responsibility whenever a security failure occurs in a particular area.
Sani also said the ADP would present what he described as “fresh ideas” in its 2027 manifesto, arguing that successive policies had failed to adequately improve the lives of Nigerians.
He said the party would focus on meeting citizens’ basic needs, including food and shelter, while avoiding what he described as excessive taxation and borrowing.
The ADP chairman argued that Nigeria had sufficient natural resources to improve the welfare of its citizens if corruption was tackled effectively.
“Nigeria is such a lucky country that the natural endowments that we have, believe me, is so huge that we don’t need to borrow,” he said.
Sani identified corruption as a major obstacle to the effective utilisation of the country’s resources, particularly in the energy sector.
He said the party’s manifesto would provide practical measures for addressing these challenges and improving governance.
