Lagos Celebrates Isese Day, Urges Preservation Of Yoruba Heritage

The Lagos State Government has joined residents across the state to celebrate Iṣẹ̀ṣe Day, describing the occasion as an opportunity to promote and preserve Yoruba heritage, culture and traditions.

The state government, in a post on its X page, extended greetings to Lagosians across the five IBILE divisions of Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island and Epe.

It said Iṣẹ̀ṣe Day provided an opportunity to celebrate the cultural values that had shaped the Yoruba people while emphasising the importance of preserving the heritage for future generations.

The government said Lagos’ emergence as a global city should not come at the expense of its history, culture and traditions.

“As Lagos continues to grow as a global city, we must continue to hold on to the history, culture and traditions that make our state unique,” it said.

It added that the state’s diversity and cultural heritage remained central to its identity and contributed to making Lagos the vibrant city it is today.

The government also prayed for peace, unity and prosperity across Lagos communities, while expressing optimism that the state would continue to record progress without losing its cultural identity.

“May this Iṣẹ̀ṣe Day bring peace, unity and prosperity to our communities,” it said.

The government wished all Lagosians a happy Iṣẹ̀ṣe Day and concluded with the Yoruba greeting, “Ẹ kú ọjọ́ Iṣẹ̀ṣe! Àṣà wa ni ìdílé wa, ilẹ̀ wa ni ìṣògo wa.”
