Ekiti Poll: Fayose’s Brother Alleges APC Vote-Buying Plot
Ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State, Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former governor Ayodele Fayose, has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is plotting to buy votes during the poll.
NEWSNGR reports that Fayose raised the alarm in a video posted on his official Facebook page on Thursday, claiming that credible information available to him indicated that the APC had concluded plans to induce voters with money.
He called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to monitor the election closely and arrest anyone involved in vote-buying.
The businessman said the credibility of the election would depend partly on the ability of security and anti-graft agencies to prevent electoral malpractice.
He urged the EFCC to justify its presence in the state by apprehending alleged vote buyers during the exercise.
Fayose said, “If EFCC is on ground, they should be able to apprehend many vote buyers because APC is planning to buy votes. EFCC, Nigerians are watching, you now have an office in Ekiti State.
“We have credible information that these people are planning to buy votes.”
Fayose also lamented what he described as Nigeria’s faulty electoral system, saying the country had remained underdeveloped because unpopular candidates were allegedly rigged into office.
“Nigeria is not developing because our electoral system is faulty. Popular people don’t get into power but unpopular people do because they are rigged in.
“If our votes can’t put the best candidates there, it means we are in a mess. We will see on Saturday whether EFCC is effective or not,” he added.
