Court Fixes June 30 For Ruling On Sowore’s Bail Application
The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned ruling on an application filed by human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, seeking the restoration of his bail.
NEWSNGR reports that Justice Mohammed Umar, on Wednesday, fixed June 30 for ruling in the matter instituted by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Sowore is being prosecuted over comments in which he allegedly described President Bola Tinubu as “a criminal.”
During proceedings, Sowore’s lawyer, R.O. Adakole, who held brief for lead counsel, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN), urged the court to release the activist to his legal team pending the ruling.
Adakole argued that Sowore had consistently appeared in court and had never jumped bail since the case began.
Justice Umar declined the plea, saying he needed to study the affidavits and other processes filed before the court. Despite repeated appeals by the defence, the judge refused to grant Sowore temporary release.
The development comes amid concerns from supporters and rights activists over the revocation of Sowore’s bail.
On June 16, 2026, the court revoked his bail and ordered a bench warrant after he failed to appear for a scheduled proceeding.
Counsel for the DSS, Akinlolu Kehinde, had told the court that Sowore was absent without giving any reason and urged the court to revoke his bail.
