The Osile of Oke-Ona Egba, Oba Adedapo Tejuoso, has conferred traditional chieftaincy titles on the Ogun State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oladipupo Adebutu, former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo and other prominent party leaders.

The installation ceremony took place on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at the monarch’s palace in Sapon, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Adebutu was installed as the Lisa Aje of Oke-Ona Egba, while his wife, Adenike Omolola Adebutu, received the title of Yeye Lisa Aje of Oke-Ona Egba.

Former Ogun State Senator Iyabo Obasanjo was also honoured with the title of Okanlomo Obinrin of Oke-Ona Egba.

Other prominent PDP members who received traditional titles included the Ogun State PDP Chairman, Dr Abayomi Tella, who was installed as Fiwagbola of Oke-Ona Egba, while Alhaja Lateefat Sowunmi-Kolapo received the title of Olu Nla Obinrin of Oke-Ona Egba.

Also honoured were Architect Dele Olaleye, who became Sesogbayi of Oke-Ona Egba; Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello, who received the title of Oluomo Obinrin of Oke-Ona Egba; and Chief Abiodun Ogunremi, who was installed as Otun Olu-Nla of Oke-Ona Egba.

The ceremony attracted several traditional rulers, political leaders, community representatives and other dignitaries, including members of the Ogun State PDP leadership.

According to reports from the event, Oba Tejuoso explained that the traditional titles were not merely ceremonial recognitions but honours reserved for individuals whose character, credibility and contributions had earned the confidence of the traditional institution.

The monarch specifically described Adebutu as a tested and trustworthy individual whose character and antecedents had been observed over time.

He said Adebutu had demonstrated qualities that made him deserving of the recognition, adding that he believed the PDP governorship candidate could be relied upon.

The monarch also urged Adebutu and his wife to use their new positions and influence to promote development in Oke-Ona Egba, Egbaland and Ogun State as a whole.

Responding, Adebutu expressed appreciation to Oba Tejuoso and the entire Oke-Ona Egba traditional institution for finding him worthy of the honour.

He described the chieftaincy title as more than an occasion for celebration, saying it represented a responsibility and a renewed call to serve the people.

According to him, the recognition would further strengthen his commitment to the development of Egbaland and Ogun State.

He also pledged to support initiatives that would provide better opportunities, improve living conditions and create an environment where residents could prosper.

The monarch presented certificates to the new titleholders, while traditional rites associated with their installation were also performed.

The development comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State, where Adebutu is seeking another opportunity to contest for the state’s top political office under the PDP.

However, his candidacy has faced uncertainty following his omission from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s list of governorship candidates. The electoral body reportedly rejected his petition over the omission, although Adebutu has maintained that he remains the duly nominated candidate of the PDP.

Adebutu and his wife were also installed as Gbademu and Yeye Gbademu of Owu Kingdom in September 2026 by the Olowu of Owu, Oba Saka Matemilola.

The latest installation adds to the traditional honours received by the PDP governorship candidate and his wife in Ogun State.
