In a video circulating online, Umahi said the habit of constantly boasting about money had become widespread, adding that genuine wealth should be evident in what individuals have accomplished rather than in what they claim to possess.

“We have become very noise-making. Every time, money na water. How much do you have? Have you ever seen that water that I have money? Have you ever seen children that say I have money, or say I have money, or poor?” he said.

The minister stressed that financial success should be demonstrated through meaningful actions, particularly by supporting others and creating opportunities for people in need.

“Money speaks for itself. Money speaks for itself, not to say money na water. No, but I be me then. Money, what have you done? How many of the people scholarship?” he asked.

Umahi also called for a return to a more strategic and measured approach, expressing concern that too much attention was being given to making noise about wealth rather than showcasing tangible achievements.

“We are becoming very loud. We should go back to our strategy,” he added.

His remarks follow comments by Cubana Chief Priest, who described Umahi as the second-worst minister the South-East has ever produced.
