Osun: Police arrest 45-year-old man over alleged defilement

The Osun State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, identified as Adeyemo Mukaila, over the alleged defilement of a victim in the state.
The suspect was arrested after members of the public reportedly apprehended him and handed him over to the police following an incident in the Ilupeju area of Ikire, Osun State.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the suspect was a friend of the victim’s grandmother and frequently visited her home, where the victim lived.
The police alleged that sometime in September 2026, the suspect called the victim to collect some items from him.
“On arriving at his residence, he allegedly dragged her into his room and sexually assaulted her.
“On October 2, the victim’s birthday, she visited the suspect at his workshop in the Ilupeju area of Ikire after buying biscuits for him as a birthday gift.
“The suspect allegedly dragged the victim into a nearby bush and sexually assaulted her. He reportedly fled into the bush after noticing that people had seen them, while commuters reportedly pursued the victim and asked her what had happened.
“The victim explained the incident to the commuters, who subsequently went after the suspect, apprehended him and handed him over to the police,” the statement said.
The command urged parents and members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station or through established police emergency channels.
