2027 Elections: IGP Disu Promises Nigerians Professional Police Conduct

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has assured Nigerians that the Nigeria Police Force will maintain professionalism before, during and after the 2027 general elections.
Disu pledged that the police would learn from previous elections, address identified shortcomings and improve their performance to ensure a better electoral process in 2027.
The police chief gave the assurance while speaking with journalists after the launch of The Origin of Women in Nigeria Police Force, a book written by 96-year-old retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dame Stella Okuyiga.
He disclosed that the police recently held a conference involving commissioners of police from across the country and other senior officers to review preparations for the forthcoming general elections.
According to him, the meeting provided an opportunity for the force to assess its performance during recent elections, identify areas where officers had performed well and examine the weaknesses that needed to be corrected ahead of the 2027 polls.
Disu explained that the lessons drawn from previous electoral exercises would help the police improve their operations and prepare adequately for the next general elections.
He noted that the 2027 elections were important to Nigerians and that the police were determined to meet public expectations by conducting themselves professionally throughout the electoral process.
Speaking on the force’s commitment, the IGP said the police would build on their previous experiences to deliver better results during the forthcoming polls.
He said, “I want to let you know that we just finished a conference of all commissioners of police and other senior officers. We have had two or three elections recently, and you can see the police did very well, and we did too.
“We have now brought all these experiences together, where we did well and where we did not do well, so that we can perform better in this big election that everybody is looking up to.
“I give you my word. Nigeria Police will do so well, and we will make Nigeria Police so proud, and we will make Nigerians proud.”
The assurance comes as preparations gradually intensify for the 2027 general elections, with expectations that security agencies will play a crucial role in maintaining law and order, protecting voters and ensuring that electoral activities take place peacefully.
The police are expected to deploy personnel across the country to provide security before, during and after the elections, while their conduct and neutrality will remain important to public confidence in the electoral process.
Disu’s promise signals the force’s intention to use lessons from previous elections to strengthen its preparations and improve its performance in 2027.
