‘Monumental loss’ – Tinubu mourns Afenifere leader, Fasoranti

President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, who died on Tuesday at the age of 100.
In a tribute signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday, the President described Fasoranti’s death as a monumental loss to Yorubaland and Nigeria.
The President said Pa Fasoranti was a patriarch, a teacher, and a true Awoist who dedicated his entire life to the service of the people.
He recalled that Fasoranti was not just the leader of Afenifere, but a beacon of integrity, courage and principle who stood firm for justice, true federalism and good governance.
Tinubu said Fasoranti distinguished himself as an educationist, a former Commissioner for Finance in old Ondo State, and a pro-democracy activist who resisted military dictatorship and survived an assassination attempt during the Abacha era.
The President noted that Fasoranti lived a fulfilled life of 100 years, marked by selflessness and uncommon commitment to the development of Ondo State, Yorubaland and the country.
He commiserated with the Fasoranti family, the Olus of Akure, the people of Ondo State and the Afenifere family, praying that God grants his soul eternal rest.
“This is monumental loss. Baba made immense contributions to this country and, at the risk of his life, fought for the democracy we enjoy today.
“Pa Fasoranti distinguished himself in every respect: in his disciplined, Spartan way of life, his belief in principles, and his commitment to noble causes,” he said.
