Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has donated vehicles to eight suspended members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly to support their political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Matawalle, a former governor of Zamfara State, reportedly directed the immediate release of the vehicles to enable the lawmakers to reach their constituencies, engage supporters and mobilise voters ahead of the elections.

The donation is also seen as part of efforts to restore unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State following months of political disagreements among party members.

Yazid Danfulani, Managing Director of the Nigeria Agricultural Insurance Corporation, presented the vehicles on behalf of the minister.

Speaking during the presentation, Danfulani said the gesture reflected Matawalle’s commitment to promoting unity, reconciliation and cooperation among APC members in the state.

He added that the minister was determined to bring aggrieved party stakeholders together and strengthen the APC’s position ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development followed reports that President Bola Tinubu had directed the suspended lawmakers to return to Zamfara State and work towards resolving the party’s internal crisis.

The directive was reportedly aimed at reconciling members and ensuring that the party remained united ahead of the next general elections.

Speaking on behalf of the lawmakers, Aliyu Ango Kagara thanked Matawalle for providing the vehicles, describing the gesture as support for their political activities.

Kagara also pledged that he and his colleagues would work towards securing victory for President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

However, the donation comes amid uncertainty over the lawmakers’ political allegiance.

Days before the presentation, Ibrahim Bakura, spokesperson for the lawmakers, insisted that they had not returned to the APC despite their meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

The latest development comes as political parties and their key stakeholders intensify efforts to strengthen their structures and resolve internal disputes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
