FIFA Rankings: Super Falcons fall seven places, stay top in Africa

Nigeria’s Super Falcons dropped seven spots in the latest FIFA women’s world rankings released on Tuesday, DAILY POST reports.
Previously ranked 36th in the world, the 10-time African champions now sit in 43rd position globally.
The Super Falcons however maintained top spot in Africa despite their decline on the world stage.
South Africa, Morocco, Ghana and Zambia occupy the second to fifth positions on the continent, respectively.
The Super Falcons’ slide on the global ranking can be attributed to the team’s poor showing at the 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Morocco
The West Africans were eliminated in the quarter-finals, losing to Malawi and Cameroon.
Nigeria also lost 2-1 to South Africa in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup playoffs.
Augustine Eguavoen’s side however recorded two victories over Comoros in the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers.
Globally, there is no change in the top five with Spain maintaining top spot ahead of USA, Germany, England and Japan.
The next FIFA women’s world ranking will be released on Monday, 7 December, 2026.
