Armed Men Reportedly Kidnap Sowore In Ekiti, Vandalise Restaurant

Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has reportedly been abducted by armed men in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Tawakalitu Restaurants and Catering Services, where the armed attackers allegedly stormed the premises and forcefully took Sowore away.
Eyewitnesses who spoke to SaharaReporters identified the attackers as suspected political thugs allegedly connected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). However, the allegation has not been independently confirmed.
Videos and photographs from the scene showed extensive damage to the restaurant, with several tables and chairs destroyed. Parts of the facility were also reportedly vandalised during the incident.
A vehicle parked outside the restaurant was damaged, while another vehicle was seen with a flat tyre, suggesting that violence erupted during the reported attack.
The development was subsequently announced through posts on Sowore’s verified Facebook and X accounts, raising concerns over his safety and whereabouts.
One of the posts stated: “Armed thugs kidnap Sowore. His current location is unknown!”
As of the time of filing this report, no information had been made available regarding his location or the identities of those responsible for the alleged abduction.
Sowore, a prominent journalist, human rights campaigner and politician, is known for his outspoken criticism of successive Nigerian administrations. He is currently the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress ahead of the 2027 general election.
His visit to Ekiti State was reportedly connected to activities relating to his presidential campaign.
On Thursday, October 29, 2026, his defence lawyer informed the Federal High Court in Abuja that Sowore was in Ekiti State for campaign-related engagements.
Following the development, the court adjourned his ongoing cyberbullying trial until November 3, 2026.
The reported abduction has raised fresh concerns about the safety of political figures and the security of campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general election.
As of Friday afternoon, Sowore’s whereabouts remained unknown, while further details surrounding the incident were still being awaited.
