Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the national leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation Afenifere, has died at the age of 100.

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, announced his death in a statement released on Tuesday, expressing deep sorrow over the passing of the respected elder statesman.

The governor described Fasoranti as a revered leader whose life was devoted to the development of Yorubaland and Nigeria.

Aiyedatiwa said the late Afenifere leader was a symbol of wisdom, integrity and selfless service, adding that his contributions to the country and his commitment to the welfare of the Yoruba people would remain part of his enduring legacy.

He noted that Fasoranti dedicated many years of his life to promoting justice, good governance and the interests of the Yoruba people. His principled positions on national issues and guidance to younger generations earned him widespread respect.

The governor also extended his condolences to the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom and the entire Ondo State over the loss.

Fasoranti was regarded as one of the prominent figures in Yoruba socio-political affairs. Through his leadership in Afenifere, he played an important role in advocating for the rights, interests and development of the Yoruba people.

His death marks the end of an era for many who regarded him as a source of inspiration and guidance on matters concerning governance, democracy and national development.

Although details of his funeral and memorial arrangements had not been announced as of the time of this report, tributes are expected from political leaders, traditional rulers, members of Afenifere and other Nigerians who admired his contributions.

His passing is a significant loss to Afenifere, the Yoruba community and Nigeria at large.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.
