US President Donald Trump is sending Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Russia and Ukraine with a new peace proposal.
The two envoys will hold talks in Moscow before travelling to Kyiv.
“They’re bringing with them a proposal to end the war,” Trump told reporters on Friday.
Trump did not reveal the conditions included in the proposal.
He also refused to say whether the plan would require Ukraine to surrender territory to Russia.
“We have an idea for peace,” he said.
Trump described Witkoff and Kushner as strong negotiators. He said there was a chance they could make progress.
Reports indicate that the envoys will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday.
A senior Ukrainian official said they are expected to meet President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on Sunday.
The Kremlin has not confirmed the planned Moscow meeting.
This will be Witkoff and Kushner’s first visit to Kyiv since Trump returned to office.
Both men have visited Moscow several times during previous attempts to find a settlement.
Zelenskyy has proposed a temporary halt to airstrikes while the envoys hold their meetings.
He said Ukraine would suspend its attacks if Russia agreed to do the same.
The latest diplomatic effort comes as both countries continue launching missile and drone attacks.
A Russian drone recently struck the headquarters of Ukraine’s SBU security service in Kyiv. Zelenskyy said the attack targeted the office of the agency’s acting chief.
The envoys’ visit has not produced a ceasefire or agreement yet. The exact terms of Trump’s proposal also remain unknown.
