Troops rescue missing 19-year-old herder in Plateau

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have rescued a 19-year-old herder who was reported missing while grazing livestock at Shen village in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama, in a post on X, quoted security sources as saying that the incident occurred at about 12:30 am on September 27, 2026, following a report that the herder had gone missing while grazing in the community.

He said the troops immediately commenced a search-and-rescue operation in the area in an effort to locate the missing person.

The herder, identified as Hashimu Jafaru, was eventually found asleep in the bush at Shen village. During preliminary questioning, the 19-year-old confirmed that he had apparently fallen asleep while in the bush.

He stated, “The troops subsequently contacted his father, Alhaji Jafaru, for further action and arrangements concerning the young man.”

Makama explained that the incident ended without injury or confrontation, highlighting the importance of prompt reporting and rapid response to cases involving missing persons, particularly in areas where security concerns remain elevated.

The security analyst stated that security personnel continued to urge residents and livestock owners to promptly report missing persons and other suspicious incidents to the appropriate authorities.
