Oyebanji dissolves boards, terminates appointments of political aides

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the immediate dissolution of boards, commissions and parastatals across the state and terminated the appointments of political office holders serving in his administration.

Those affected include Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants and Technical Assistants to the governor.

The decision was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode.

According to the statement, the move is part of the administration’s preparations for the end of Oyebanji’s first term and the commencement of his second term in office, which is scheduled for October 16, 2026.

However, the governor exempted some statutory commissions and governing councils from the dissolution.

The governing councils of state-owned tertiary institutions will also remain in place, in accordance with previous directives issued by the governor.

Although the boards of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Local Government Service Commission and Teaching Service Commission were dissolved, their respective chairmen will remain in office.

Directors-General and Technical Advisers to the governor were also excluded from the termination of appointments.

The governor expressed his appreciation to the affected political appointees for their contributions to his administration and their service to Ekiti State.

Oyebanji thanked them for their support and commitment throughout the administration’s first term and wished them success in their future endeavours.

The dissolution and termination of appointments are expected to pave the way for the governor to reorganise the state’s administrative structure as preparations continue for his second term.
