SEC To Unveil Capital Market Master Plan 2.0, National Savings Scheme October 19

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will hold the 2026 National Capital Market Conference on October 19 in Abuja, with the launch of the Nigerian Capital Market Master Plan 2.0 (NCMMP 2.0) and the National Savings Scheme.

The conference will take place at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, and will bring together stakeholders from the public and private sectors to deliberate on measures to deepen Nigeria’s capital market.

The SEC said the conference would focus on strategic initiatives to boost domestic resource mobilisation, strengthen investor participation and support sustainable economic growth and national development.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima will be the Special Guest of Honour, while the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, will serve as Chief Host.

The Director-General of the SEC, Emomotimi Agama, will host the conference.

Speaking on the event, Agama said the Capital Market Master Plan 2.0 was a 10-year strategy designed to guide the development of Nigeria’s capital market.

He described the plan as a critical framework for measuring the growth and development of the market, adding that the endorsement of the Vice-President would be important to its implementation.

Agama also described the National Savings Scheme as an inclusion initiative designed to give Nigerians across different income groups opportunities to save and invest for the future.

“The National Savings Scheme is principally an inclusion tool: every Nigerian is given the opportunity to save, and those savings will be invested for the future,” he said.

According to him, tax incentives will be introduced to encourage participation in the scheme.

Agama said the initiative was aligned with the Federal Government’s fiscal policy direction, including tax relief for citizens earning below a specified income threshold, which he said would increase their disposable income.

Other activities scheduled for the conference include the presentation of reports from the Capital Market Committee Technical Working Groups and the inauguration of the NCMMP 2.0 Project Steering Committee.

The Capital Market Master Plan Implementation Committee will also be inaugurated during the event.

The SEC said the conference forms part of efforts to further develop Nigeria’s capital market and strengthen its contribution to economic growth and national development.
