The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Bello Abubakar of Ganwo village, Yauri Local Government Area, over an alleged attempt to kill a commercial motorcycle rider and steal his bike.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on August 23, 2026, at about 4:00pm, when a 22-year-old commercial motorcycle rider, Bello Umar of Wasagu Village, Danko/Wasagu LGA, was found with a serious head injury at Tungar Dariya Bush, near Makera Village in Shanga LGA.
The victim was evacuated to Koko General Hospital, where he received medical treatment and was later discharged.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly hired the victim’s motorcycle from Koko Town to Tungar Dariya Bush, where he attacked him with a hoe before covering his body with leaves, believing that he was dead.
The suspect then allegedly fled with the motorcycle to Yauri Town.
The Police said diligent investigation led to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle and the subsequent arrest of Abubakar.
The suspect is currently cooperating with investigators, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, described the incident as “despicable” and a direct assault on human life and livelihood.
