Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has sworn in 18 newly elected Local Government Area chairmen, charging them to prioritise the welfare and development of residents.
Okpebholo disclosed this in a post via his X handle on Friday, September 4, saying the inauguration marked “the beginning of a new chapter in grassroots governance.”
The governor urged the newly inaugurated chairmen to complement the efforts of the state government and ensure that the impact of government reaches communities across the state.

“I charged the Chairmen to make the development and welfare of our people their priority, complement the efforts of the State Government, and ensure that the impact of government is felt in every community,” Okpebholo said.
“I also urged them to shun corruption and lead with humility, integrity, accountability and a genuine commitment to service,” he added.
The governor said greater autonomy for local governments would also increase the responsibilities of the elected officials.
“With greater Local Government autonomy comes greater responsibility,” he said.
Okpebholo congratulated the 18 chairmen and urged them to align their programmes with the state government’s SHINE Agenda.
“I congratulate all 18 Chairmen and charge them to key into the SHINE Agenda of the Edo State Government and work with us to build a more peaceful, prosperous and developed Edo State,” he said.
The governor reminded the chairmen that their positions came with the trust of the electorate and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them.
“The people have entrusted you with leadership. Go and justify that trust,” Okpebholo said.
