MC Oluomo mourns as Lagos NURTW leader Baba Alado dies at 83

The National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has joined other prominent Nigerians in mourning the death of Lagos grassroots leader, Chief Taoreed Faronbi, widely known as Baba Alado.

Faronbi died in the early hours of Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the age of 83.

His family confirmed his death, while his burial was conducted shortly afterward in line with Islamic rites.

In his condolence message, MC Oluomo described the late Faronbi as a respected figure whose contributions to the NURTW and the wider Lagos community would remain part of his legacy.

Beyond his role in the transport sector, he also had traditional, commercial and political influence in parts of Lagos.

He was the Olori Ebi of the Alagbeji Royal Family in Papa Ajao, Mushin, and held the chieftaincy title of Akinrogun of Isolo Kingdom.

In the business community, Faronbi was known as the Babaloja of Aswani International Market, a position through which he played a role in the activities of traders in the area for several years.

His burial was attended by family members, friends, community leaders and other prominent personalities from across Lagos.

Those present included Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, the Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Tunbosun Aruwe, and the Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Dr Oluseyi Jakande.

Faronbi was also known within Lagos’ social and entertainment circles and maintained relationships with several prominent Fuji and juju musicians.

Among the artistes associated with him were K1 De Ultimate, Osupa Saheed and Alabi Pasuma.

He was also involved in real estate and land development, although some of his activities in the sector were at times linked to disputes involving communities and other parties.

His death has continued to generate tributes from politicians, transport union leaders, entertainers, traders, friends and residents of Mushin.

Many of those mourning him have described him as a prominent figure who played different roles in Lagos’ grassroots, transport, traditional and business communities.
