2027: ‘We won’t tolerate political thuggery’ — Kebbi Govt

The Kebbi State Government has warned that it will not tolerate political thuggery or violence during campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Special Adviser to Governor Nasir Idris on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris Zuru, stated this in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday.

Zuru was reacting to the recent violence in Jega, where properties were reportedly destroyed by suspected political thugs.

He said the state government condemned the incident and urged security agencies to investigate the circumstances and prosecute anyone found responsible, irrespective of political affiliation.

“The State Government, therefore, calls on all political parties, their supporters, community leaders, and other stakeholders to exercise restraint and avoid actions or statements capable of escalating tension,” Zuru said.

He said political differences should be resolved through dialogue, lawful democratic processes and peaceful engagement rather than confrontation.

Zuru also warned political parties, groups and individuals against encouraging or participating in acts capable of undermining public peace and security.

He said the government would work with security agencies, traditional institutions and communities to protect lives and property and maintain peace across the state.

The governor’s aide called on residents to reject violence and inflammatory rhetoric as political activities increase ahead of the 2027 elections.

He added that the government would not allow politically motivated violence to undermine socio-economic development programmes and projects across the state.
