From Walking Again to Dreaming Again: IfeanHealth Celebrates 250 Stanbic IBTC’s T4AL Beneficiaries

A child who once faced significant barriers to completing secondary education is today a tertiary institution graduate preparing for national service.

Another beneficiary has gone from uncertain prospects to earning a university degree and becoming an entrepreneur with a growing business.

And a younger beneficiary, whose story is still being written, recently completed secondary school with excellent results and scored over 300 in the 2026 UTME.

For IfeanHealth, these are the stories behind the 250 beneficiaries now reached through the Stanbic IBTC Together4ALimb (T4AL) programme.

The health-technology company celebrated the milestone on Saturday 22nd of August 2026 as hundreds of beneficiaries, families, healthcare professionals, partners, volunteers and members of the public gathered in Lagos for the programme’s 12th annual Walk.

IfeanHealth has served as T4AL’s prosthetics and rehabilitation partner for twelve years, providing prosthetic rehabilitation and continuing clinical care to beneficiaries as they grow.

But at this year’s Walk, the focus moved deliberately beyond mobility.

Speaking at the event, Ejike Anih, Managing Director/CEO of IfeanHealth, described the programme’s journey through three stages: the PAST, represented by the circumstances surrounding limb loss; the PRESENT, focused on prosthetic rehabilitation, restored mobility and educational support; and now the FUTURE what beneficiaries can become.

“At IfeanHealth, our work has never simply been about providing prosthetic limbs. A prosthetic limb restores a path. The real outcome is what becomes possible because of it.”

Twelve years after the journey began, those possibilities are becoming increasingly visible.

Beneficiaries are graduating. Others are pursuing tertiary education. Some are entering entrepreneurship. Younger beneficiaries are achieving strong academic results and beginning to imagine professional futures for themselves.

“Stanbic IBTC beneficiaries are daring to dream, dreaming of what they can become,” Anih said.

The programme is owned and sponsored by Stanbic IBTC, with IfeanHealth delivering prosthetic rehabilitation and long-term clinical care. Beneficiaries also receive an Educational Trust Fund from Stanbic IBTC to support their continued education.

For the families who have experienced this journey firsthand, the value of the programme extends beyond mobility. It is also about helping children see that their ambitions remain within reach.

Chuma Nwokocha, Chief Executive, Stanbic IBTC Holdings, emphasised the importance of giving beneficiaries that sense of possibility:

“We want to make the children understand the limitless possibilities that lie ahead of them and which the loss of a limb should not prohibit”

Representing the wife of the Lagos State Governor, Mrs Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Ola Ibitoye also highlighted the broader meaning of the annual Walk, describing it as an opportunity to celebrate inclusion and the possibilities created when children are supported to move forward.

“Let us remember that this is more than a walk, it is a walk of hope, inclusion and opportunity.”

The importance of expanding access to prosthetic care was further underscored by Jochen Schindelarz, Vice Consul at the German Consulate – Lagos, who highlighted the programme’s continued support for children living with limb loss.

“This year another 50 children will receive prosthetic limbs aiding mobility and independence and opportunities for the future.”

The programme’s impact also speaks to the growing recognition of assistive technology and rehabilitation within Nigeria’s broader healthcare landscape.

Prof Rufai Ahmed, Registrar/CEO, MRTB, noted that the work being done by Stanbic IBTC and IfeanHealth is contributing to a wider shift in how the country approaches assistive technology and rehabilitation:

“Corporate bodies identify needs in the society and start to bridge it and then national policies come up and align with that and that is what has happened with what Stanbic IBTC and IfeanHealth has done and currently Nigeria as for the first time developed national policy in assistive technology and rehabilitation and this aligns with with we have been doing.”

For children living with limb loss, rehabilitation is not a one-time event. As they grow, their physical and functional needs change, requiring continuing assessments, adjustments, replacement prostheses and rehabilitation.

This long-term relationship has allowed IfeanHealth to witness something that cannot always be captured by the number of prostheses fitted: what happens afterwards.

For some beneficiaries, afterwards means university.

For others, it means entrepreneurship.

For the younger children, it may mean careers and accomplishments that are still years away.

And that, according to IfeanHealth, is the point.

As Anih told participants at the Walk:

“And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why we walk.”

After twelve years and 250 beneficiaries, the journey is no longer simply about walking again. It is about where those steps can lead.
