Firm deploys AI to solve car accessory fitment challenge

CarAccessories.ng is using artificial intelligence to help Nigerian motorists find car accessories compatible with their vehicles, targeting a common problem in automotive retail where customers are often unsure whether a product will fit before making a purchase.

The company’s technology combines vehicle fitment data, product information and an AI shopping assistant to recommend accessories based on a customer’s car brand, model, year, needs and budget.

CarAccessories.ng said the system is designed to reduce guesswork in a market where accessories such as floor mats, seat covers, dashboard products and some electronic upgrades can vary significantly in compatibility across vehicle models.

“Buying car accessories should not be based on guesswork. A customer should be able to identify the car they drive and quickly see products that are suitable for that vehicle,” the company said in a statement on Thursday.

The platform allows customers to identify their vehicle before browsing products, enabling them to see accessories considered suitable for their particular car.

The company has also introduced an AI Shopper for customers who may know what they want to achieve without knowing the specific name of the product required. Motorists can describe their vehicle, explain what they want to improve or provide a spending limit, with the system then recommending relevant products available on the platform.

The recommendations cover needs including safety, comfort, interior appearance, convenience and technology.

CarAccessories.ng said products such as emergency kits, tyre inflators, jump starters, vacuum cleaners and some phone holders have broader compatibility, while items such as floor mats and seat covers require more specific fitment information.

The platform covers categories including car seat covers, floor mats, safety and emergency equipment, car electronics, interior accessories, cleaning products and other vehicle essentials.

It also has a budget-shopping option and a feature aimed at motorists who have recently bought a vehicle and need guidance on essential accessories.

The “I just bought a car” feature recommends items including floor mats, emergency kits, tyre inflators, jump starters and phone holders, which the company said could improve safety, protection and convenience for new vehicle owners.

CarAccessories.ng is combining the online platform with a physical retail operation in Ikeja, Lagos, allowing customers to inspect products or seek assistance before purchasing.

The company’s store at 1 Oluwole Phillips Avenue, Ikeja, is intended to serve customers who prefer physical retail or require additional guidance on product quality and vehicle compatibility.

The company said the combination of AI-assisted online shopping and physical retail forms part of its strategy to make vehicle compatibility a central part of car accessory purchasing in Nigeria.

“There are thousands of car accessories available in the market, but having more products does not automatically make shopping easier. What matters is helping the customer find the right product for the right vehicle,” the company said.

CarAccessories.ng said it plans to expand its product catalogue, vehicle database and AI capabilities as usage of the platform grows, with the broader aim of becoming a destination for motorists seeking accessories through personalised recommendations and physical retail support.
