Emmanuel Nii Adom Quaye, better known to the world as Strika from the acclaimed 2015 Netflix war drama “Beasts of No Nation,” has reportedly been sentenced to a year in prison following his conviction over the theft of metal railings from the Kwashieman footbridge in Accra.
The saga began in late August, when video footage surfaced showing Strika being confronted by residents at the footbridge, allegedly caught in the act of cutting away metal components with the apparent intention of selling them as scrap.
The clip spread rapidly across social media, drawing a wave of reactions from Ghanaians who remembered him fondly for his breakout performance opposite Idris Elba and fellow child star Abraham Attah.
According to an update shared by his former caretaker, Official Gunshot GH, who spoke with Strika directly by phone, the actor confirmed he had appeared in court and received a one-year sentence. He is expected to be transferred to Nsawam Prison to begin serving his term.
The case has reignited a difficult and long-running conversation about Strika’s life since his brush with international fame, with reports over the years pointing to financial struggles and periods of homelessness following the film’s release.
Questions have also resurfaced about the roughly $30,000 he was reportedly entitled to from the movie’s profits, an amount casting director Mawuko Kuadzi says was placed in trust for him while he was still a minor.
