Bauchi woman arrested over alleged killing of co-wife

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old housewife, Hauwa’u Haruna, over the alleged killing of her co-wife, Jamila Adamu, at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi metropolis.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at about 4:05pm, when the C-Division Police Station received information about a domestic altercation between the two women, who lived in the same household.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib, preliminary investigation showed that Haruna, the second wife, allegedly armed herself with a pestle and struck Adamu, 43, on the forehead during the incident.

The victim reportedly collapsed and became unconscious after the attack.

Police detectives attached to C-Division were immediately deployed to the scene, where they documented the incident before taking the victim to Specialist Hospital, Bauchi.

A medical doctor at the hospital later confirmed Adamu dead, while her remains were deposited at the mortuary pending autopsy.

The police said Haruna was arrested in connection with the incident and that the pestle allegedly used in the attack was recovered as an exhibit.

The Command added that the suspect allegedly acted while experiencing hallucinations, noting that further investigation would establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner condoled with the family of the deceased and urged residents to seek timely medical and psychosocial support for relatives experiencing mental health challenges.

The Command also advised members of the public to promptly report cases of domestic violence to the appropriate authorities.
